By AMFI is the statement store of Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Every six months a select group of students are given the opportunity to function as a part of the management of the Statement Store. The shared passion and enthusiasm for the fashion and creative industries make this a thrilling initiative in the cultural world of Amsterdam and far beyond.
This time ‘The Incubator’ is the theme and Land was asked to join their store.

Guido and Linda of clothing label ‘Land’ invited me to their atelier for a early morning rendez-vous. I met the duo during the opening of FoA in the by AMFI store. While enjoying the breakfast they arranged, we shared ideas about our companies and they talked about their label and inspirations.

Land in zicht
In de sober vormgegeven winkel van Nen vind je labels als Acne, Hope, Monique van Heist, de Rotterdamse ontwerpster Daisy Kroon en Cheap Monday. Maar bijvoorbeeld ook het nieuwe label Land, waarvan ieder ontwerp is ontstaan vanuit een archetypische basisconstructie, ofwel de ontdekking dat basisitems als het colbert, de blouse en de pantalon door de jaren heen nooit hun ware vorm en functie hebben verloren. Binnen dit thema gaan de ontwerpers van Land op zoek naar nieuwe interpretaties van alle losse onderdelen die samen een kledingstuk vormen, waarbij de grenzen worden aangeduid door functionaliteit en draagbaarheid.

For SALON/2, a platform that creates a crossover experience to inspire and instigate a discussion and dialogue between art, design and fashion, we made an installation about our inspiration.
A mobile consisting out of clothing patterns cut out of cardboard will be visible at Huize Frankendael in Amsterdam Oost, until the 17th of july.

Every end has a start
When I decided a few years ago to stop and pause designing to explore the fashion world, outside my own Land, I always hoped that that end would have a new start.
I remember well the moment I had a glimpse of that new start.
The moment I met Guido Rijkse and we never stopped talking about creating, architecture, fashion, concrete, words, paper, food, pencils and the world.

We just started and knowing that we are not there where we want to be makes me realize that building Land will be something that never ends. It will grow, move, change and hopefully never stop

Philosophy
Land is a space where collections originate that aren’t bound to time.
Throughout its history, fashion has shown that the basic construction of clothing is timeless. Archetypal clothing pieces like the jacket, the shirt and the trousers have never lost their true form and function.
Within these basic constructions, Land searches for the most interesting balance between all the separate parts that make a garment, by which the boundaries are indicated by functionality and wearability. They represent an infinite source of inspiration for our designs.
The powerfull silhouette and technical details that originate are emphasized by the use of plain fabrics with clear colours combined with high-end finishing.
History
After graduating from Montaigne, Amsterdam in 2003, Linda Erkens established her own clothing label Land.
Since 2004 she has been successfully designing and selling her collections.
To develop herself further she paused Land in 2008 and started to work in the team of Raf Simons in Antwerp.
When she moved back to Amsterdam she met Guido Rijkse, together they decided to continue Land.
NOW the first new collection is finished, Spring Summer 2011!
